We will give you the opportunity to participate in a variety of experiences. With the assistance of your LPK guide, you will develop skills in strategic design, technical knowledge and presentation abilities. You will play an active support role on a team or two while being fully immersed in LPK culture. So what are you waiting for? Let’s get going!
 
A Peek Inside the Life of a Design Intern:
Work doesn’t have to be work—have fun, lighten the mood and enjoy a laugh. Each day brings something new and different, so expect to work on multiple projects at the same time. Gain broad experience and contribute to a variety of initiatives. Think about LPK as an extension of your classroom learning.

Expectations

  • Be customer-service oriented—make someone else’s workday easier by making it easy to work with you.
  • Be up for anything! Don’t deselect yourself for work. There is learning in all tasks and in all phases of the project.
  • It’s due tomorrow—no problem, I can handle it! Be flexible and adaptable.
  • Ego? Check it at the door.
  • Participate in and gain exposure to the LPK culture, but don’t fade into the woodwork. We want outstanding performers and personalities.
  • Bring a point of view, stay curious and ask questions.
  • Bring your thirst and passion for beautiful design. Show us the fresh thinking we’ve been missing because you weren’t here.
  • Pre-Reqs

  • Working toward a degree in Graphic Design or a related field
  • Typographic sensitivity
  • Program knowledge: Keynote and Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat
  • Good concepting and layout skills
  • Ability to push creative boundaries
  • Hand skills, comping and assembling
  • Sketch & InVision proficiency a plus, but not required
  • Fluency in English

    Position Overview
    When you join LPK as a Designer, we expect you to bring a raw design talent, a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. In return, we will give you a variety of experiences - in both type of work and category - and provide mentoring to develop skills in strategic design, technical acuity, analysis and presentation abilities. You will play an active support role on a team or two while being fully immersed in LPK culture. And yes, we have a plan for you. It is our goal to move you to the Senior Designer level quickly.... in about a year. Outlined below are the key behaviours and skills you will need to exhibit in order to be successful.

    It is our goal to give you, as an LPK Designer broad exposure to our portfolio and team experiences. At the entry level, these skills and behaviours are key:

    - Typography sensitivity
    - Program knowledge - Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat and Keynote
    - Good concepting and layout skills
    - Pushing creative boundaries
    - A strong pedigree - Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, or equivalent education or design industry experience.
    - Fluency in English

    - Stick to your budgeted number of hours and bill them all (even if you go over budget)
    - Give your team advance notice if you will have a problem meeting a deadline or sticking to your budgeted number of hours
    - Know your limits and know when to say 'No'. Manage your workload to ensure the quality of your deliverable; en-roll your director or Talent Management if you get in a jam

    Leadership: Envision a future state. Inspire and enable others to get there
    - It is okay to have an untamed spirit, but be respectful to everyone around you

    - Be proactive, seek out new experiences and be open to change
    - Earn the respect and trust of your peers

    Communication: Get your point heard. Hear others as well
    - Present ideas with passion and energy

    - Provide rationale for your work by connecting it to brand and design strategy
    - Be curious, ask questions and always be prepared to answer 'Why'?
    - Take notes!

    - Identify good communicators and look to them as role models.

    Senior Designer

    Position Overview
    As a Senior Designer at LPK, you are the design horsepower behind most initiatives. You will likely to be assigned to a brand or two, but also asked to participate on initiatives outside of your brand on a fairly regular basis. For your assigned brands: we expect you to have a solid understanding of the brand's meaning and able to create design solutions that support the brand's strategies - and challenge the expected. When your work on brands new to you: we expect you to be the provocateur (no, it's not French). Your job will be to provoke, innovate and help the team see past the brand guidelines. As a Senior Designer, you will participate in all phases of a project - from concepting to execution oversight. We expect you to be proficient at design strategy, and on the learning curve for brand and innovation strategy. Initially, your client contact and project management will be limited; however, as you progress, you may own small projects and have more client face-time.

    All of the following skills and behaviours must be present to be considered for a Senior Designer position:-
    - Complete mastery of the Designer level
    - Deliver unexpected creative work that is thoughtful in strategy and execution
    - Be fast and efficient
    - Be able to work on multiple projects
    - Bring a range of ideas supported by solid rationale to the table

    - Be a role model - mentor, guide and inspire your teammates, especially less-experienced staff
    - Be the designer that the team relies on

    Communication: Get your point heard. Hear others as well
    - Provide solid, strategic rationale when you are presenting your concepts with confidence and passion. Focus more on strategy and aesthetic and less on personal opinion
    - Practice owning your recommendation in front of your team and your client
    At some point as a Senior Designer, you should begin presenting work to the client in a confident professional manner
    - Incorporate design vernacular into presentations
    - Find the balance between defending your designs and listening and responding well to feedback
    - Provide clear direction to less-experienced design staff, photographers, illustrators, etc.
    - Pay attention to your body language - you can say a lot without saying anything

    Opportunity Finding & Problem Solving: Be open to new experiences. Find a way to fix problems
    - Collaborate with Client Exeprience
    - Apply your knowledge of current trends and techniques in your work
    - Head off the problem - you have been around long enough to see it coming, put a plan in place to prevent another long night
    - You are not expected to know it all - if you are in over your head, call the right people before it is too late
    - Don't allow yourself to get complacent or be comfortable. Keep yourself inspired. seek out learning and research stretch initiatives and new techniques
    - Keep your implementation people close to you, and the communication open at all times. The more you know about the process, the more you will be an expert in front of the client.
